Coat Distribution A Success.

Last week we had a successful coat distribution for our families.  What a great way to wrap up a year full of community activities!

We are in the process of planning another coat collection/distribution during January.  Please contact us here if you have any cold weather items to donate.  Specifically, looking for hats, gloves, scarves, and kids coats or jackets (sizes 7-16).  Of course, any donations are much appreciated.  These specifics were direct requests from families in need.

Please search your closets for donations and pass the word!

Thank you.

Our Blog Turns 1!

It is very humbling to realize that our Newhallville.Community.Matters blog has just reached one year old as we come to the end of 2013.

Our journey is fueled by determination and reality.  We are resolute in continuing this journey; now allied with new supporters who share our vision.  Supporters we met because of this online community.  We have accomplished much this year!

Weekly Newhallville Walking Group.

This is a standing community event every Saturday.

Please see message from Kimberly Langin:
We'd like to invite you to join us in a new walking group on Saturday.  Walking throughout your neighborhood provides many opportunities that you would not have by staying indoors! If we can get a large enough group together, hopefully it will encourage others to join us for future walks.
Through walking, we'll get to meet more of our neighbors which will help strengthen the community and bring more voices together to talk about neighborhood concerns. Drivers will become more aware of pedestrians, leading them to be more cautious and attentive when driving through highly populated areas.
Also, by being outside regularly, we'll discourage crime, such as graffiti and other vandalism, because there will be more "eyes on the street" to notice these things and prevent them from happening!
And, as always, it's good exercise!
We hope that you'll join us Saturday's at 1pm.  The walk will start on Bassett Street in front of the Lincoln Bassett School.
We encourage you to spread the word to others!

Images of the Back To School Event.

We had a beautiful, cloudless day for our First Annual Back to School Event on Lilac Street.  Here are some of the images captured that day.

Kali and I thank all of our supporters and volunteers who gave of their time, resources or both to make this event happen.  This event lifted a burden for many of our families and the kids had a great time!

Enjoy.

We had generous volunteers from NHS of New Haven.

Local businesses that sponsored our event. Thank you Piggy Back Rides!

A mysterious photographer.  Is that Gary Holder-Winfield?

Loyal residents that love their neighborhood.

Great music.  Thank you DJ "Ultimate", DJ "E", and Tootskee.  You know how to move the crowd!

It's not a block party without dancing.  Lots of it.

Add water.

And a few reminders of why we did this.

P.S.:  Head over to Gary Holder-Winfield's Facebook page.  He captured amazing images with all Newhallville had to offer this weekend.
