It is very humbling to realize that our Newhallville.Community.Matters blog has just reached one year old as we come to the end of 2013.

Our journey is fueled by determination and reality.  We are resolute in continuing this journey; now allied with new supporters who share our vision.  Supporters we met because of this online community.  We have accomplished much this year!

Revised Post Request & Submission Guidelines.

Newhallville.Community.Matters is pleased to post articles, events and information for the community.  Because of limited staff, we ask you keep these guidelines in mind when submitting your information.

1.  Post submissions will be posted either Tuesday or Thursday ONLY.  Your posting should be "live" within 7-10 days.  Please ensure enough time in advance to send us your information before your event.

2.  Only JPEG or picture format can be uploaded to the blog.  If you submit a PDF or Word Doc, we will have to forward by email to our subscribers.

3.  It is up to the discretion of Newhallville.Community.Matters whether the information is appropriate for our community blog.

4.  Don't forget your contact information; so our community can reach you and ask questions!

Mobile Market Returns to Winchester.

Friday, July 12th, the City Seed/Common Ground Mobile Market will return to 535 Winchester Avenue.  It will be a great event (weather permitting); along with Arts on the Avenue!

Arts on the Avenue Returns.

WRAP (Winchester Revitalization Art Project) will soon begin its Arts on the Avenue for Summer 2013.  All ages are welcome.

 

 

Newhallville & Yale Architecture Community Event. Saturday 4.6.2013.

All Newhallville residents are encouraged to join your neighbors this Saturday, 4/6 on Lilac Street for a community event.

From 10am to 4pm, you will be able to have your opinions about Newhallville documented in a one-of-a-kind mapping event.  And while this is a new concept for our neighborhood, it has been successfully done here.

A Discussion with Dr. Steve Perry @ ConnCAT.

The Connecticut Center for Arts and Technology (ConnCAT) presents "A Discussion with Dr. Steve Perry".  The topic will be "Educating African American Boys".  It will take place on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 6pm to 8pm.

Women's Month at ConnCAT.

The Women’s Month Event at ConnCAT will honor the achievements of powerful, talented, gifted, creative ,exuberant, and influential African American women through an innovative exhibit of hair art, drama, and graphic design.

It will take place on Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:00pm.  Come and enjoy an afternoon of elegance. Tickets may be purchased at Sharon Joy Salon located at 222 State Street in New Haven. To make your $10 donation online visit www.conncat.org and click on make a donation.

The Weeks' Events at ConnCAT.

Just a reminder starting Monday, 2/18 ConnCAT has events open to the general public.  There will be a film screening and panel discussion regarding "5K", young women and the federal prison system.

On Friday, 2/22, ConnCAT welcomes First Wave.  In light of the recent snow and school cancellations and cancellation of February Break, the Spoken Word event at ConnCAT scheduled for 2 p.m. on February 22 has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. on the same date.  Please contact Genevive Walker at (203) 823-9823 for more information.

In an experimental theatre production rooted in questions about civil rights, First Wave Touring Ensemble explores themes around purpose, power and responsibility as concerns for today's youth.  This performance is followed by a live band open mic session.
